The Gynaecological Cancer Centre at the University College London Hospital provides specialist care for women suffering from gynaecological cancer within the North London Gynaecological Cancer Network.
Our team, known as a multidisciplinary team (MDT), is made up of gynaecological cancer surgeons, oncologists (specialists in radiotherapy and chemotherapy), psychologists, clinical nurse specialists, physiotherapists and administrators amongst others.
The network structure
The following hospitals make up the network:
- Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Hospitals Trust
- The North Middlesex Hospital
- The Princess Alexandra Hospital
- The Royal Free Hospital
- The Whittington Hospital.
Each of these hospitals has a lead gynaecologist for cancer who liaises closely with the multidisciplinary team about patient care. All women except those with very early endometrial or cervical cancer are referred to UCLH for expert treatment.
Approximately 1.5 million women live in the North London network area and a total of 450 women with cancer were treated in 2008 of which 330 had new cancer diagnosis.
